Quayside TGC - Coronavirus update                  13th March

Dear Parents,

Thank you to everyone who has followed the procedures we have set up at Quayside to try to minimize the risk in the gym. We are pleased to see that nearly all gymnasts, parents and staff are all making full use of the hand washing facilities and hand sanitizing units we have around the gym.  There is a plentiful supply in our reserves which will hopefully last until the virus abates.
We are keeping abreast of any developments and advice given by the Government and British Gymnastics and will keep you informed via email, Club website and FaceBook page.
In time there will be an end to this situation, we thought it might be helpful if we tried to answer as many questions as we can at this time.
What if the schools close?
We will follow all government guidelines to do with closures. That said, from what we have been told we will remain open regardless of school closures as from current information available we do not fall into the same category.
What if my child is ill?
Please don't send your child to sessions with any illness, if you have any worries about your child's health call 111 or your doctor.
What if a child arrives ill or falls whilst at Quayside?
We will isolate the child (with an adult) and call you immediately.  Don't worry we will make this as pleasant a procedure as possible and do our best not to upset them.  Obviously for the wellbeing of others no one will be permitted to stay if they arrive ill.   If you have changed your contact details then please let us know.
What happens if I have to miss sessions or the club has to close?
We are suspending the current club policy of not being able to make up missed sessions and until further notice any sessions missed due to illness or club closure will be eligible to make them up during the year.
Regional and National Trampoline Competitions
Currently there are no plans to cancel any of the upcoming competitions we are due to compete in.  Should this change we will let you know straight away.
Our governing body is updating us on a daily basis, we will keep you informed of any changes at Quayside.  We are staying open until we are told otherwise :)
To avoid bombarding you with emails regarding this issue any further updates will be posted on the Club’s website and FaceBook page.
Keep safe.

Quayside TGC Covid-19 – Creating a safe environment together

In an effort to keep everyone safe we are proposing the following procedures:-

  • What can WE do?

  • We have 2 hand sanitation stations in place one is at the bottom of the stairs the other is located outside the toilets
  • We are awaiting delivery of 2 further hand sanitisers which will be located just by the front door and at the top of the stairs of the mezzanine
  • We have a further 3 hand washing stations all with anti-bacterial soap
  • Between each lesson we will spray any areas with high contact especially the toilets.
  •  Coaches for now will keep contact to a minimum.
  • What can YOU do?

  • Please don’t send your child in with any illness’s
  • Instruct your child on good hygiene practices e.g. hand washing
  • Please send your child in with their own tissues (maybe a sealable bag to store used tissues would be helpful)
  • DON’T PANIC  Working together we can help reduce our risk

The very last thing we want to do is overreact, but, we felt that if we had a procedure in place we will at the very least help ourselves to stay healthy.

Club Competition Timetable is now available to view

The 2018 British Championships for Trampoline, Tumbling and DMT took place at the Arena Birmingham on 22nd and 23rd September.

5 Gymnasts from Quayside Trampoline and Gymnastics Club gained qualification, through a series of competitions earlier in the year, to this prestigious event in which over 400 gymnasts representing 80 clubs from across the UK took part.

A regular member of the British Team and European Silver medallist Corey Walkes held off stiff competition from his GB team members to win GOLD and become 2018 British Champion in the 17 – 21 Male category.

Corey was also awarded the coveted Paul Luxon Memorial Trophy which is presented to the gymnast who achieved the highest execution score for the 2 routines performed in the preliminary rounds.

Paul Luxon, who sadly passed away in 2004, became Great Britain’s first ever World Champion in 1972 changing the sport forever with his, at the time, unprecedented use of the line out positon of his arms in his routines which is now a pivotal requirement to achieving perfection in a routine.

This trophy is especially poignant to Quayside as Paul was the training partner and good friend of Quayside’s Head Coach Susan Bramble and was the inspiration behind naming our venue The Luxon Centre.

Reigning 2017 British Ladies Champion Laura Gallagher performed 3 valiant routines over 2 days of competition before being pipped into bronze medal position by 2 of her GB team mates.

Laura and Corey (coached by Sue Bramble) are now waiting to see if they have been selected to represent Great Britain at the World Championships being held in St Petersburg, Russia in November.

Mike Oleksiyevets (9-10 yrs Boys), competing in his first British Championships, was the first Quayside gymnast to compete on Saturday morning. After performing 2 solid routines he finished 3rd going into Sunday’s final. Sunday’s final saw Mike holding his nerve to complete his routine and maintain his 3rd place bringing home a bronze medal.

In a strong 11 - 12 Female category 12 year old Talia Macrides was also competing in her first British Championships. With 2 good routine performances Talia finished 12th in her group narrowly missing out on the top 8 final on Sunday.

The 11 – 12 Male category was a strongly fought group with some top quality routines. Theo Gundry White performed 2 great routines on Saturday taking him into Sundays final in 5th place. Improving on his voluntary score from the Saturday Theo managed to pull up a place finishing a very respectable 4th position. All 3 juniors are coached by Carl Hall.

They are following Corey, Theo, Talia, Mike, Luke, Morgan and Alanah for the next series!!

We have sent club members an email with all the details

For full details please go to the Holiday Club section

Congratulations to the following gymnasts who have qualified to represent the South West at the Regional Team Finals which will be held at the Barclay Card Arena, Birmingham on Saturday 16th and Sunday 17th June:

William March Munro       NDP 3 13+ yrs M

Caitlin Alexander             NDP 4 9-10 yrs F

Mya Lloyd                        NDP 6 13-14 yrs F

Breanna Lloyd                 NDP 6 13-14 yrs F

Connor Harding               NDP 6 13-14 yrs M

Massive congratulations to Laura and her coach Sue Bramble on becoming British Champion. Performing 3 stunning routines Laura took the prestigious title from her British team mate by 4.955 points.

Following this competition Laura left with the British Team to compete in the World Cup in Valladolid, Spain.

The field included the World top trampolinists. Performing 1st in the competition Laura posted a score of 104.35 and finishing in 2nd place of the 1st group (12) had completed the preliminary round.

With 3 more groups it was a nervous wait for both Laura and her coach Sue. With the last group starting, with only the top 8 progressing to the final, Laura was positioned 8th with the current Olympic Champion still to compete! Following her 2 routine Rosie's (OC) score flashed up on the big screen revealing she had in fact finished behind Laura in 13th position.

Again competing 1st in the Final Laura performed an amazing routine posting a personal best score of 56.290. Again a nervous wait ensued whilst the rest of the field competed. After the next 3 competitors Laura was still lying in 1st place. With the remaining 4 competitors completing their routines Laura eventually finished in 4th place missing out on Bronze by 0.125pts.

Laura now looks forward to the World Championships in Bulgaria next month
